This necessitates novel mathematical frameworks and solution approaches. ## 3. Model Development We progressively extend the classical newsvendor model along two dimensions: decision type (quantity → quality) and stakeholder response (deterministic → linear → sigmoid). This section develops three models of increasing sophistication. ### 3.1 Model Setup and Notation Consider an entrepreneur who must choose quality level $q$ to influence commitments from two stakeholder groups: customers (C) and resource partners (R). Our integrated prediction-prescription framework resolves this dilemma by jointly optimizing quality decisions and parameter learning. The mathematical models reveal optimal strategies depend critically on stakeholder responsiveness patterns and relative costs. The push-pull implementation enables entrepreneurs to act decisively while remaining adaptive—achieving what we call "living 48 hours in a day." Tesla's Roadster development exemplifies successful navigation of perishable commitment. By pushing ambitious specifications while pulling market feedback, they captured early adopters before traditional automakers reacted while avoiding catastrophic misalignment. The integrated approach enabled them to discover that customer responsiveness exceeded expectations while partner flexibility surpassed fears—insights that pure strategies would have missed. For entrepreneurship research, this work demonstrates the value of operations management tools adapted to high-uncertainty contexts. For practitioners, it provides actionable frameworks balancing the competing demands of speed and accuracy.
